MineARC CoalSAFE

In consultation with the world’s leading mining companies and regional mining authorities, MineARC Systems has designed and engineered a range of intrinsically safe CoalSAFE models to suit different underground mining environments. Refined over a number of years, the MineARC CoalSAFE Refuge Chamber provides miners with optimum safety features, functionality and performance.
  
Configurations range from 8 to 24 person occupancies.
   
Ultimately CoalSAFE Chamber dimensions and rated occupancy can be custom-engineered to site specifications, without compromising on safety or performance.

Inside a MineARC CoalSAFE Refuge Chamber, a number of vital life-support systems combine to create a safe, ongoing environment for occupants. Through innovative design, the CoalSAFE provides both a powerless carbon dioxide / carbon monoxide scrubber, as well as a powerless air conditioning system – The MARCis (MineARC Air Refuge Chamber intrinsically safe). Utilising a sequential operating procedure, the chamber’s life-support systems can be activated in less than 60 seconds during an emergency.

CHAMBER EXTERIOR – FRONT

Paint

High durability white paint for underground visibility. Sand blasted to 2.5 grit, and in compliance with AS/NZS 2312:2002.

Reflective Signage

Safety and operational signage in reflective stickering for high visibility underground. Translation into a second language available.

Air Vent

Air vent valve, protected.

Porthole Window

12mm porthole viewing window, compliant with Australian Standard 2208. Blast shield protection available upon request.

Sealing Door

Outward opening door, featuring double locking rotating handles. The vacuum tested seal maintains a positive internal pressure.

Skid Base

The skid base provides ease of mavoeuvrability, featuring 250 x 100mm forklift slots, front and rear mounted tow points and front mounted 25mm steel plate push blocks.

Sequential System Operation

Utilising a sequential operatingprocedure, MARCis can be activated in less than60 seconds during an emergency.

Air Conditioning System

To maintain the internal atmosphere of the CoalSAFE, the MARCis incorporates a nonelectrical air conditioning system that both cools and dehumidifies the refuge.

Operating Procedures

Operating procedures are located on the wall of the refuge chamber, as well as within hardcopy manuals. Operating procedures can be translated into a second language.

MARCis Scrubber System

The MARCis (Intrinsically Safe) scrubbing system does not require electrical power to operate. The system scrubs the air of CO and CO2 build up.

Seating

MineARC seating is ergonomically designed to provide suitable comfort during entrapment. Made from durable, hard wearing fabric, the seating provides 500mm of space per person.

Inward opening; accessible internally and externally, with neoprene memory seal.

  • CoalSAFE MSHA Low Seam

     
     
    The CoalSAFE MSHA Low Seam is designed for underground coal mines with a minimum seam height of 46” (1.2m). The chamber can be custom designed to client specifications, but typically features 12, 16, 20 and 24 person configurations.
     
    Due to the height restrictions of low seam operations, the CoalSAFE Low Seam features a secure, separately transportable external cylinder bay (ECB) to house the oxygen and liquid CO2 cylinders required to power the refuge’s intrinsically safe internal life support systems. – More information

  • CoalSAFE MSHA Mid Seam

     
     
    The CoalSAFE MSHA Mid Seam is designed for underground coal mines with a minimum seam height of 56” (1.4m).
     
    The unit can be custom-engineered to client specifications, but typically features 8, 12, 16 and 20 person configurations. – More information

    The High Seam CoalSAFE model is designed for underground coal mines with a minimum seam height of 74” (2.2m).

  • CoalSAFE Change-Over Station

     
     
    The MineARC CoalSAFE Change-Over-Station (COS) is designed to aid underground personnel as they exit the coal mine during an emergency. The station provides a secure ‘staging-post’ stocked with replacement breathing apparatus.
     
    Inside the COS, breathing apparatus such as self-contained-selfrescuers (SCSR’s) can be changed over in safety while providing personnel the opportunity to regroup and continue to plan their escape. Each model features custom-designed storage to accommodate site requirements. – More information
