During November 2014, MineARC was pleased to sponsor the 3rd Indonesian Fire and Rescue Competition. The event was incredibly successful, providing a platform to promote the importance of safety and training, whilst also building a better standard of emergency rescue procedure within the Indonesian mining industry.

The contest was held at the Pertamina HSE Training Centre in Palembang, an internationally recognised facility that provides OH&S certification, specialising in emergency rescue and fire safety. Pertamina HSE Training Centre has received ISO 9001:2008 certification, and has been appointed as a ‘Competency Assessment Centre’ (TUK) by the National Board for Professional Certification.

Over 8 gruelling days, 13 teams competed in a range of challenging events, including Under Water Rescue, Hydrocarbon Firefighting and Confined Space Rescue.

PT Freeport Indonesia took out the overall honours for Best Team, winning an array of awards including High Angle Rescue, Firefighting Competency and Collapsed Structure Search & Rescue. Second place went to PT Darma Henwa Tbk, with PT Berau Coal following in third.

MineARC was given the honour of sponsoring the competition assessors, and were lucky to be on site for most of the major challenges. We were pleased to see progress towards improving safety records within the Indonesian mining sector, and that the industry is placing a greater emphasis on OH&S standards and regulations.
