Langley Park, located in Perth CBD, Western Australia, once again played host to the 7th annual Mines Emergency Rescue Competition (MERC) over the weekend of the 24th– 26th November last year.

MERC is a free event which serves to showcase the skills of emergency response personnel and provide mining families and the general public an insight into the role emergency rescue teams play in keeping their workplace safe. The event strives to improve emergency safety procedures by exposing competitors to realistic emergency response scenarios, allowing them to put their rigorous ongoing training to the test.

The annual event aligns closely with MineARC’s core values and commitment to continuous improvement in mine safety. With this in mind, MineARC committed sponsorship to a participating mines rescue team – Northern Star Jundee – as well as the First Aid competition event category.

MineARC’s contribution allowed Northern Star Jundee to purchase team shirts for their participants and key supporters, with the impressive team logo designed by Jundee’s own; Jason Ullrich.

Northern Star Jundee performed impressively, winning 7 out of the 13 event categories, and receiving 1st place in the competition overall – a fantastic reflection of their hard work, training and dedication.  Well done Jundee!

MineARC’s sponsorship of the First Aid category provided the trophies for the winning competitors, with MineARC’s Australian Service Manager, Brad Whittaker, on hand at the closing ceremony to present the award to the winning team. 1st place was taken out by the Northern Star Jundee team, followed by Synergy Muja Power in 2nd place and Rio Tinto Iron Ore West in 3rd place. Congratulations to all the teams involved!

The MERC event organisers are to be commended for their efforts in putting together such an integral and valued community event. The quality and passion of participating teams were unmistakably evident, and choosing the winners would have been a challenge for the judges. MineARC greatly appreciates the opportunity to have been involved with the 2017 Perth Mines Emergency Rescue Competition and looks forward to continuing our support in years to come.
