Exact refuge requirements will vary depending on a number of important factors, including; intended refuge occupancy, required entrapment duration, insitu rock type, bulk head construction, ambient mine temperatures and the overall volume of the enclosed space (termed 'dead-air' space).

Based on the information entered, the MineARC Refuge Calculator can determine the required compressed air flow rate, exact scrubbing capacity, cooling capacity, breathable oxygen requirements, power requirements (either electrical or powerless), airlock and vent door requirements, and so on.
